The Friends of St Mark's

The Friends of St Mark's (more commonly referred to as "The Friends") are an independent charity for those who feel affection for St. Mark’s church.

The aim of the Friends is to raise funds to assist with the preservation, repair, maintenance and improvement of the church, its fabric and major furnishings, and to provide articles for worship.

The Friends raise funds from subscriptions and donations to assist with the preservation and enhancement of the church and its furnishings. From time to time specific appeals are launched and fund raising activities take place. You can contact the Friends c/o friendsofstmarksbr2@gmail.com

Management Committee

The Friends is run by a Management Committee which oversees the administration of the charity and its finances, and agrees what to fund. The Committee meets regularly and holds an AGM each year for members to hear about the work of the Friends and activities. The Committee comprises Stephen Stringer (Chair), Pat Openshaw (Secretary), Roger Parry (Treasurer), Ted Jackson and Margaret Hales.

How to Join

If you are not already a member of the Friends it’s easy to join. A minimum subscription of £20 per year is required.
To become a Friend all you need to do is:

complete a standing order form for your bank with the amount you would like to donate;
complete a Gift Aid Declaration form so we can claim back from HMRC 25p for every £1 you contribute.
Simply return the forms to Roger Parry, the Treasurer of the Friends or any of the committee members. Copies of the forms can be found at the back of the church.

Activity of the Friends

Over the last few years the Friends have supported important projects including replacing the carpet in the entrance hall, contributed to the redecoration of the choir vestry and the provision of items for the garden, as well as ensuring necessary maintenance was undertaken.

During 2022/23 the Friends contributed to the cost of the new lights in the Chancel; two information panels on the history of the church and its interior decoration; a new advent candle holder; and hassocks (kneelers) to commemorate the late Queen’s Jubilee and the Coronation of King Charles III.
